About the Abor Group
The Abor Group was incorporated in September of 2002 and is owned by Drew Hill. Drew has a degree in geological engineering from the University of Toronto and started off his career working on site assessments. He grew dissatisfied with the lack of real action that was happening to improve our environment. Drew believed that in many cases, site assessments had become a tool to help developers meet minimum standards for environmental action rather than be a real tool to ensure the best possible build to support the environment.

He felt the answer to making a real environmental difference was in embracing his native roots. His interest in renewable energy led him to investigate wind power as a key component of his service offerings to communities. The company purchased a Wind Assessment Tower and the appropriate measurement devices. The Abor Group landed a contract to complete a Wind Assessment for the Sagamok First Nations community. That project is now entering the second phase. The Abor Group will be working with the community to develop funding initiatives and address barriers to bring the project to build ready status.

Other services that are offered to communities and those developing communities include the completion of Phase 1, 2 and 3 site assessments for those sites where contaminants exist, as well as the completion and or review of mandatory environmental assessment reports for sites that are being sold. Currently these services are offered primarily to First Nations communities and projects.

The Abor Group recognized that many people were beginning to understand the benefits both economically as well as environmentally to creating more energy efficient homes. The Abor Group was able to gain government certification to complete Residential ecoEnergy Audits. With the reinstatement of the Federal Government Eco Energy program, which compensates homeowners for work completed as a result of the ecoEnergy Audit, this service has become an important plank in The Abor Group’s Residential Services.

The Abor Group also offers Draft Sealing and Insulation services to homeowners, who recognize that their home can be more energy efficient, with or without a formal audit. They are an authorized dealer of ZeroDraft.
About Drew Hill
Drew Hill is a young and articulate professional engineer who grew up steeped in Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) culture on the Six Nations Territory of the Grand River in Ontario. His mix of scientific and traditional knowledge form the pillars of his innovative and forward looking company, The Abor Group. In his day to day work, Drew combines the experience he gained working in the environment, energy and mining sectors, as well as with First Nation communities, to develop projects he believes can benefit both the economy and the environment.

As a member of the Mohawk Nation and the Haudenosaunee, the traditional leadership of the Iroquois Confederacy, Drew takes great pride in continuing a path prescribed by his ancestors, to live in balance and harmony, and to lead with a “good mind” -- integrity and compassion.

In pursuing his education, Drew first received a bachelor of science from the University of Western Ontario. He then began working for the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs as an environment officer where he was responsible for reviewing environmental assessments and project descriptions to determine their potential environmental impacts and recommend possible measures to mitigate their effects. After realizing he would be more effective as an engineer, Drew decided to pursue an engineering degree from the University of Toronto and later began working with various mining companies and the engineering firm, Golder Associates.

In January of 2003, Drew launched The Abor Group Ltd., an environmental and engineering consulting company. From his base of technical knowledge within the environmental sector, Drew quickly broadened his company’s scope of services to include conducting wind resource assessments and completing home energy audits as well as air sealing and insulation upgrade services for homeowners throughout Ontario. The Abor Group Ltd is also serving as the project manager on the development of a 40 MW wind farm in Northern Ontario, and as a consultant on a number of energy and environmental related projects.

Drew is married to Carla Robinson, a pioneer in her own right. She is a news anchor and host for CBC Newsworld’s weekly program, Absolutely Canadian The First People’s Edition. Mrs. Robinson is from the Haisla and Heiltsuk First Nation communities in northwestern British Columbia. The first Aboriginal news anchor for a national television broadcaster, Carla has been an inspiration for many of today’s aboriginal youth. Carla holds a degree in Mass Communications from Carleton University and a Masters degree in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario.

Drew and Carla are a dynamic couple who together strive to help First Nations and Canadians find solutions that can help create a balanced, sustainable and healthy world for future generations.
